News On Tour - Manchester

The last News On Tour for 2003 was in Manchester's Exchange Square at EuroPride (the week long gay pride event that is held in a European city each year).  This meant a lot of hard work but some fun evenings dancing and enjoying the sights of a very full Canal Street (the centre of Manchester's gay district).

Our programmes were trailed on the BBC Big Screen that dominates Exchange Square and each day we also put out some of the best programmes presented by the public.  The screen is controlled from the BBC's main offices at Oxford Road about a 20 minute walk away.

No gay pride event would be complete without a little dressing up, so as a finale we had the Sky Muffins present a Liquid News bulletin.....

As part of News On Tour we have tried to get across to the public how complicated, but fun it is to do News.  As an added bonus this time we gave the best presenter the chance to spend a day with us on Bank Holiday Monday filming their own report about EuroPride. This was then broadcast on the BBC's North West Tonight.  The winner, Hugh, then saw the programme and his report go out live on the big screen.

Congratulations to Hugh on winning the "Journalist for a day" prize and also thanks to the rest of the team for making my life easy throughout the tour.

Thanks,

Chris

PS Looks like we'll be asked to do next year, so book your holiday now or you won't get one!
